For Chaim (pronounced ‘Hyam’) Lee, electronics and computing have always been a passion. He founded Aspire Computing in 1999 and has looked after Toowoomba's small businesses and home offices ever since.
“Electronics has been a hobby of mine since I was a teenager. I built radios, transmitters, amps and gadgets.”
Chaim carried that enthusiasm into the School of Electrical Engineering at the University of New South Wales. “After that I went bush,” he says. “I moved out of Sydney and went to work on farms.”
He worked in the plant nursery and irrigation industry, supplying pawpaw seedlings and trickle irrigation systems to commercial growers in Queensland and northern NSW, before completing a Bachelor of Applied Science in Postharvest Technology at UQ Gatton. The course had a large computing component, which gave him his foundation in modern PC-based computing.
After working at NSW Agriculture in the Riverina, Chaim completed an RS101 Certificate in Computing Engineering PC Service and Repair in Sydney, then a Microsoft Certified course in Windows installation, configuration and management. He returned to Queensland to work as a self-employed PC and network technician.
“I've always liked working for myself. I'm hands-on, and I like doing on-site work and helping country folk.”
When Chaim started, public understanding of computers was limited and the internet ran on slow dial-up. “I did a lot of work setting up Office, bookkeeping programs and printers for farmers and small businesses. I still like that type of work.”
Today, much of his work is data transfer and recovery. “When people don't service their machines regularly, their hard drive can fail and often they don't have a backup. If I get the drive early enough, I can copy the data to a good new drive. I can also arrange for most unreadable drives to be recovered.”
He also offers managed services including data backup, and encourages good habits. “These days I'm supplying and installing solid state drives in new and existing PCs. They have no moving parts, are much quicker, more efficient, and last longer than the mechanical drives they replace.”
“I supply, install, configure, protect, service, restore and manage, so people can enjoy their computers without concerns or drama.”
Computer parts, repairs and support for Toowoomba, Gatton, Crows Nest, Highfields and surrounds.
